Linux
64-bit Intel/AMD: Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 38 or newer.
AppImage.deb package for Debian and Ubuntu
The desktop app updates itself (the .deb version tells you when a new one is out). Release notes are shown in the app before anything is installed.
Opening the app the first time
ShowMeTheMoney is new, and its installers are not yet signed with Apple's and Microsoft's paid certificates, so your computer will warn you that it doesn't recognise the developer. The app is the same either way. Here's how to open it.
On a Mac
- Open the downloaded
.dmgand drag ShowMeTheMoney to Applications. - Open it from Applications. macOS says it can't be opened. Choose Done.
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to the message about ShowMeTheMoney and choose Open Anyway, then confirm with your password.
- From then on it opens normally.
On Windows
- Run the downloaded installer. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", choose More info, then Run anyway.
- Follow the installer. You won't be asked again.
Linux notes
The AppImage needs the FUSE 2 library. On Ubuntu 22.04 and later it isn't installed by default:
sudo apt install libfuse2
Then make the file executable and run it:
chmod +x ShowMeTheMoney_*.AppImage
./ShowMeTheMoney_*.AppImage
ARM computers, Alpine and other musl-based distributions, and NixOS aren't supported as desktops. Use the server image below.
Run it on your own server

Put it behind HTTPS (a reverse proxy such as Caddy or Traefik), open it, and create the first account. It becomes the administrator, who can invite the rest of the household. Administrators are told in the app when a new version is out.
